TOXIC FEMININITY

2023 — NOW

The project explores the fabrication of femininity through the lens of mass culture. It focuses on clichés, imposed ideals, the absurdity of ready-made identities, and the search for individuality that often turns into a consumer trap.

 

The work incorporates phrases from women’s T-shirts — rhinestone slogans that, over time, have acquired a shade of toxic femininity. These provocative, often sexualized statements are layered onto images of children — little princesses — bringing together two prepackaged codes: innocence and adult performativity.
